We have a Steering Committee made up of county directors and managers and state staff who help direct our day-to-day operations and we participate in regional meetings of child welfare supervisors and staff to get their input.
Through our training we hope to support the provision of family-centered, child-focused, strength based, culturally responsive, competent child welfare services to children and families. Administratively, this is accomplished through a formal partnership and collaboration between county and tribal child welfare agencies, Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, and the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
SCWTP's home at UW Madison is the School of Human Ecology and we are a part of the statewide Wisconsin Child Welfare Training System (WCWTS) which includes five University based Training Partnerships that serve all 72 counties and 11 tribes. We are members of the WCWTS Training Council and participate in collaborative efforts to assure the quality and consistency of child welfare training throughout the state.
OUR PHYSICAL HOME is our Partnership Training Center on the west side of Madison, WI where we have staff offices for the SCWTP and the WCWTS and training and conference rooms.Directions to Southern Partnership Training Center. Gallery of Pictures
Along with offering training at our Center in Madison, we also provide training throughout our 21 county region, often in the Waukesha, WI area.

Statewide Training Continuum
The collaboration between the County Human Service Agencies, Wisconsin Department of Children and Families and the University Training
Partnerships has resulted in the creation of a continuum of training
opportunities for child welfare staff at all stages of their professional
development. As represented in the pyramid below, we offer
Pre-Service Training for new caseworkers which provides basic
knowledge about child welfare practice. This on-line training is
completed in the first few weeks of employment. The next step is
Foundation Training which layers in more in-depth knowledge and
skill building activities. See the grid Foundation Training for
New Workers below. New caseworkers are required to complete 15
days of Foundation Training within the first two years of employment.
The tip of the pyramid represents a whole host of trainings called
Special Skills and Topics to continue to build knowledge and
skills throughout a caseworker's career. We also provide training for
supervisors, managers and directors as well foster parents. Trainings
are also open to private agency service providers who are part of the team
to help children and families towards the goals of safety, permanence and
well being.
